The first written evidence of Palinka found in Hungary declares it: Aqua Vitae Retinae Hungariae—the Water of Life.
Agárdi Premium Quality Palinka 'our philosophy of exclusivity extends to the each item being hand-bottled with its own serial-numbered bottle.'
Fermentation and distillation are the most crucial aspects of producing a quality fruit brandy and Agárd Distillery hand-picks its fruit at the peak of ripeness before crushing the fruit which has been hand-selected a second time. All fruit is seedless to minimize the influence of tannins and is fermented in stainless steel tanks under controlled conditions to preserve the natural fruit aromas through the process.
Agardi distillery has built its reputation on carefully crafting premium fruit Palinka spirits, winning various international awards.
The Zwack family comes from the giant middle-European melting pot that was the Austro-Hungarian Empire. József Zwack, the founder of the firm, was a patriarchal figure with a magnificent white moustache, rarely seen without his tapering cigar, who oversaw every detail of the distilling and marketing of Unicum until the day he died at the age of 94. By that time, the Zwack firm was producing not only Unicum, but about 220 liqueurs and brandies which were exported all over the world. The Zwack name also became synonymous with Barack Pálinka, the famous eau-de-vie of apricots from the orchards of Kecskemét in its distinctive long-necked bottle.
